Chapter 0209

Silence hangs heavy in the air. I can almost picture Alexander shaking his head.

Julian only truly cares about a handful of things. His status within the pack. Getting laid. Stirring up unnecessary drama. And, finally, his sister. How two siblings could be so vastly different was a mystery to me.

My hand hovers at the door, moments from knocking, when it swings open. Alexander stands there, his stunning crimson eyes filled with deep concern as they lock onto mine.

“Is it true?” I whisper, a dull throb beginning to form deep in my stomach.

He frowns. “We don’t know who she is. We don’t know if her connection to Julian is significant. We don’t know if she is even aware of your existence.”

I nod, the pain now radiating down into my lower spine. I grit my teeth, trying to push through it. I knew Alexander could feel it this time. He turns me gently, pulling my back against his warm, solid chest. His large hands cup the underside of my bump, lifting slightly. The relief is instant and immense, a welcome reprieve from the constant ache.

Then I feel it. A sudden gush, soaking through my underwear and trickling down my leg.

“Alexander.” My voice is a soft murmur. “They’re coming.”

A mix of panic and excitement flashes across his face as he helps me into his office. He was the excited one. I couldn’t be. Isabella had said I had over a month left.

“It’s too early.” My words are choked, tears welling in my eyes.

“Rumor has it Lycan babies develop faster,” Alexander mutters, already calling for Isabella.

She appears with little Charlotte in tow. Alexander immediately scoops the child into his arms. “You are not old enough to see this.”

“Is she having a baby?” Charlotte asks, her eyes wide.

“She’s having two,” he tells her firmly, quickly carrying her out of sight.

I stare in pure wonder at my two sons. They are swaddled tightly in soft blankets, propped carefully on a pillow resting on my lap.

The firstborn is a perfect, miniature Alexander, complete with those striking crimson eyes. The second has my blue eyes. But what truly overwhelms me is the fierce, all-consuming love that crashes over me. My heart feels like it might actually burst. Why hadn’t my own parents felt this? Instead, they felt the need to bind me. Alexander remains seated behind me, his legs framing mine from where he supported me during the birth. He kisses my sweaty cheek, completely unfazed by my state. “You were absolutely brilliant.”

“Are you happy?” I whisper. I knew how desperately he wanted an heir. Now he had two.

He runs a finger with breathtaking softness over each boy’s face, marveling at his sons. “They’re perfect.”

I can feel his grin without even looking. His own happiness is practically radiating from him.

Isabella checks each boy over, giving them a full clean bill of health. “Zachary was right. They do appear to be fully developed pups.” She hands the eldest back to me. He stirs slightly but remains asleep.

“Do you have names?”

My eyes widen as I look at Alexander. Names. I hadn’t even thought about names. Why hadn’t I considered our pups would need names?

He kisses me again, his voice soothing. “We have plenty of time.”

Everyone wanted to meet them. The first few days passed in an exhausting blur as pack members filed in one by one to pay their respects. Alexander assured me this was common practice. There were new heirs. Heirs that had been long awaited. Everyone was eager to see the future of the pack.

I glance over at Alexander as Zachary escorts another member out of the office. He was cradling our eldest, Logan. “Please tell me that’s everyone.” I was beyond exhausted. Twins were not easy.

Alexander kept offering to hire a nanny, but I refused. I wasn’t going to have children only to let someone else raise them.

My gaze drifts down to a wriggling Evrin. He was already trying to position himself for a feed.

Alexander loves watching me feed the twins, telling me he finds it mesmerizing. I knew what it really was. He was desperate to have me after I had refused him for so long.

I smile at him, soaking in a happiness I hadn’t felt in what felt like forever. Correction. I don’t think I had ever felt happiness like this. It was a world away from the life I had left behind.
