Anna Ross sensed the man beside her suddenly turn cold.
She instinctively pulled her coat tighter.
The car stopped in front of the bar.
Anna murmured her thanks.
She unfastened her seatbelt to get out.
"Wait."
Adrian Sinclair's low voice cut through the silence.
He held out the newly purchased lipstick.
"For you."
The interior was dimly lit.
His eyes were deep and dark as night.
Anna watched quietly.
She shook her head in refusal.
"Keep it for Miss Valentine."
She turned to leave.
The car door suddenly swung open.
Adrian strode to stand before her.
He uncapped the lipstick.

He tilted her chin up.

The color smudged at the corner of her mouth.
"Don't move."
Adrian's gaze darkened.
He brushed his thumb over the smudge.
His touch was gentle and focused.

But the distance was too close now.
She frantically pushed his hand away.
