The surveillance footage spread like wildfire across the internet. Though swiftly deleted, the damage was already done.
"Shut down all dissemination channels immediately!"
The project manager of the Colorado Mines slammed his fist on the conference table, veins bulging on his forehead. His bloodshot eyes darted around the room like a caged beast.
The meeting room fell dead silent, save for the sound of ragged breathing.
"What are you all standing around for?" He whirled around, his voice sharp. "If this blows up, none of us will get out unscathed!"
After he stormed out, the remaining staff exchanged uneasy glances before reluctantly returning to work.
Three days later, the public outcry finally died down. Isabella Langley stood by the floor-to-ceiling window, her fingers tracing the KL Design Group logo.
"Evelyn Roland... again." Her grip tightened around the coffee cup until it shattered in her hand.
Shards of glass reflected her contorted expression.
"Just wait until I secure this project. We'll see who has the last laugh."
She grabbed her coat and headed straight for the Colorado Mines site. For three consecutive days, she personally supervised operations, pushing progress at an unprecedented pace.
Meanwhile, Dylan Orlando idly scrolled through the Aether Forum.
"Fatal accident at KL construction site?" He bolted upright, fingers flying across the screen.
The post contained horrifying images—a ramshackle worker’s shed, smeared bloodstains, and stretchers draped with white sheets.
"How could this happen at the company owned by Evelyn's brother...?"
He immediately screenshotted the post and sent it to Evelyn, then dialed her number.
"Check your messages!" he blurted the moment she picked up.
Evelyn opened the image, her pupils contracting sharply.
"So something did happen at Colorado Mines." Her voice was taut. "Isabella has truly lost her mind."
"Should we intervene?" Dylan pressed.
Evelyn didn’t answer right away. She reopened the forum, carefully reading the plea post signed by "Tyler Macmillan." It detailed the accident and multiple failed attempts to seek justice.
"This reeks of Isabella’s handiwork." She let out a cold laugh and shut her laptop.
The rustling of sycamore leaves filled the campus air as Evelyn quickened her pace toward the gates. Before things escalated further, she needed to confront KL directly.
