The man stared at the wreckage strewn across the floor, his lips pressed into a thin line. A predatory glint flickered in his eyes, like a beast that had finally caught the scent of its prey after lying in wait for too long.
"Evelyn Roland, you'd better stay alive." He ran his tongue over his molars. "Who else would entertain me?"

Evelyn sneezed twice the moment she stepped into the villa. Rubbing the tip of her nose, a cold glint flashed in her eyes.
"Seems someone's thinking about me."
She pulled out her phone, her fingers gliding over the screen. The trending list was flooded with news about Château Blanc. After a quick glance, she locked the screen.
The doorbell rang abruptly.
The surveillance feed showed Julian Roland standing at the entrance.
"Second Brother." She opened the door.
Julian's gaze softened as he raised his hand to pinch her cheek, but he paused mid-air. Glancing at his rough palm, he retracted it casually.
"That's my sister for you." He smiled.
"Business?" Evelyn cut straight to the point.
Julian produced several velvet boxes like a magician. The dazzling jewels shimmered under the light.
"From Alexander. He's been swamped lately."

Evelyn's expression remained indifferent, as if the treasures before her were cheap trinkets.
Her phone buzzed.

"Alexander is still as stingy as ever." Julian scoffed and tapped his screen twice.
Evelyn's phone chimed again.
This time, nine zeros.
"Second Brother!" She massaged her temples in exasperation.
Julian pulled out a long case like it was a magic trick. Inside lay a customized pistol resting on velvet.

"Your legal permit is already processed." Julian pressed down on her hesitant hand. "But promise me—only in life-or-death situations."
Evelyn's eyes lit up as she ran her fingers over the weapon with reverence. "Thank you, Second Brother."

Julian handed her a flash drive. Evelyn plugged it into her laptop, her fingers flying across the keyboard. A grainy surveillance video began to play.
