The damp, chilly air reeked of mildew.
The chained man jerked his head up at the sound of approaching footsteps. His bloodshot eyes and cracked lips spoke of exhaustion.
Evelyn Roland's stilettos clicked sharply against the stone floor, echoing through the empty cellar.
"Daniel Murphy, have you reconsidered?"
His pupils contracted. "How did you—"
Bianca Savigny cut him off with an impatient wave. "Spare us the theatrics."
"This is illegal confinement!" Daniel yanked at his chains, the metal links clattering.
Evelyn smirked, pulling a stack of photos from her bag and scattering them at his feet.
Gambling den snapshots fanned across the floor.
"Your creditors would be thrilled to know your whereabouts."
Daniel's face drained of color.
"Money or your life. Choose."
He gritted his teeth in silence.
Evelyn moved faster than he could blink—her hand clamped around his wrist.
A sickening crack split the air.
Daniel collapsed to his knees, sweat soaking through his shirt.
"I'll talk! I'll tell you everything!"
Bianca dragged a chair over, looking down at him like a specimen under glass.
"That video was me... I had no choice!" He panted. "Two million in debt... they threatened to chop my hands—"
Evelyn's eyes narrowed to slits. "Who gave the order?"
"Don't know! Some guy approached me before the competition... told me to swap the bottles—"
"Contact details."
"Gone! I swear!" Daniel shook his head wildly. "The number's dead!"
Bianca glanced at her mentor.
Evelyn's fingers drummed the chairback. "Give me the number."
